Therapy Dog Visits Lincoln School
by Pam Warren
Lincoln School is launching a new program next year using a Therapy Dog. Raider, pictured, visited Lincoln with his owner, Julie Pinn, this spring to give students and staff a brief overview of what it will be like to have this very special program. Therapy Dogs are specially trained and certified by Therapy Dogs, International. When Raider walked into the library full of students, he was surrounded immediately by the kids and petted with 20 sets of hands. He sat quietly and loved all of the attention! Mrs. Cindy Smith and Mrs. Shelley Orwig, Lincoln Reading Teachers, are organizing the program that will begin next year. A Therapy Dog will be brought into school twice a month to sit with students while they read. You may learn more about these types of programs on the Therapy Dogs, International website. Therapy dogs are used in nursing homes, schools, and many other types of facilities. Lincoln School is full of dog lovers, staff and students alike, so it will be a perfect setting for this program. Thank you, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Orwig, for getting us started!
