Law Enforcement Drill To Be Conducted At Logan Junior High
Pursuant to Public Act 94-0600, beginning this school year, schools are required to conduct a minimum of one law enforcement drill with participation of the appropriate local law enforcement agency/agencies. At the Open House that LJHS had on 09/10/09, I informed the parents/guardians that the drill that will eventually be conducted at Logan has the potential to be very “involved” with the Princeton Police Department, and could consist of any of the following simulations in order to better prepare both the students and staff at LJHS with some form of a crisis…
A “lockdown” could be called to simulate some form of an intruder or other disturbance that would require students to stay in a specific location for a period of time…
The drill will be unannounced to both students and staff for the purpose of simulating a crisis as best as possible…
Some form of law enforcement “sweep team” may be present in order to simulate the search for the mocked disturbance…
Classroom “checks” could be conducted by both the school administration and the police in order to determine approximate “timing” in response to the mocked crisis…
Student evacuations may occur to simulate a bomb threat, etc.
Multiple support vehicles in the form of squad cars, fire engines, etc. might be noticed around the building during the drill.
It is understood that even a drill of this magnitude could cause anxiety levels to rise in students, parents, staff, community members, etc.---hence the reason for the notification of an impending drill now. Please feel free to talk about the drill with your child/children, and assist us in alleviating some of those anxieties.
Also, it is important to understand that, should a real crisis arise, the multiple mediums of communication that are available to us (radio station/s, newspaper/s, email, etc.) would be utilized in some form to notify parents/guardians. This is one portion of the drill that will not be “mocked up” when it is run, so rest assured that if you do not get timely information about a suspected “lockdown”, some form of a drill is probably being exercised…
