WELCOME TO SEVENTH GRADE ENGLISH!

#1 Write to communicate for a variety of purposes.

#2 Listen and speak effectively in a variety of situations.

#3 Use the language arts to acquire, assess, and communicate information.

This course is designed to help students develop a better understanding and command of the English language.  Strong units on composition and grammar provide a comprehensive approach to building better English skills.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS

Students will be expected to:

complete all assignments on time

keep a writing journal

learn assigned and personal spelling words

use the computer lab in a responsible and productive manner

prepare for quizzes and tests

use the "Pillars of Success" program promoted at Logan

 

COURSE MATERIALS

Textbook

One 3 ring pocket folder (journaling)

One 3 ring binder

Straight-edged loose leaf paper

Pencils, blue/black pen, red pen

Colored pencils or markers

One envelope and one stamp

 

GRADES

The student's quarterly grade will be based on points earned from homework, quizzes, exams, spelling, projects, and writing assignments.  Points will be based upon the importance of each assessment.  The student's total points will be divided by the total number of possible points to determine the student's percentage and will be assigned using the Logan's school grading scale.

 

CONDUCT

 

Each student will receive a conduct grade each quarter using the following criteria:

Punctual, courteous, helpful, honest, reliable, positive attitude, follows school rules, participates, may go "above and beyond" expectations.

14 - Always

13 - Usually

12 - Sometimes

11 - Frequent problems & disruptions

10 - Almost daily disruptions that affect the educational atmosphere of the classroom
